A client recently purchased a secondhand Model No. 915 Vibe Unit. The seller disclosed that it had been modified with a new driver lamp (not even a vintage correct one) by another builder and that the Cancel footswitch had become intermittent. My client asked if I could replace the footswitch and was aware that the warranty was void due to the modification. I told my client I was happy to replace the footswitch for him and make sure everything was doing what it was supposed to. Spoiler alert… it just goes downhill from here.
Spacers I use that are crucial to keeping the PCB level were never reinstalled, torquing the circuit board and causing stress issues. Parts removed using excess heat causing pad damage to the PCB and the wrong parts reinstalled. Parts “forced” to fit causing component failure. In short, a complete hack job. There is no repairing the pedal with any sort of long-term reliability or BMF standard of quality at this point, and a new one will have to be built.
Please, for the love of tone, reach out to me before having someone else physically assault a BMF Effects pedal. Need a mod? Talk to me. Switch/potentiometer failure? Talk to me. As long as I am above ground and breathing, I will take care of it and if for some unforeseen reason I cannot, I will connect you with someone who can, and I trust to do it right.
