I don't know about you, but I love me a good rabbit hole. I stated in a previous post that I absolutely heard a difference between a vintage ABR bridge and the one off my 2014 R9 but I was still curious about other companies claims that they make the best current reproduction ABR. I ordered a Pigtail (pictured below) and a Faber. The Pigtail arrived first and here are my thoughts.
- Both the vintage ABR and the Pigtail are a definite improvement over the stock bridge.
- Both the vintage ABR and Pigtail project and/or ring better than the stock bridge.
- The improved string attack is equal between the vintage and Pigtail bridges.
- The Pigtail is slightly warmer sounding (I don't mean dull or dead) than the vintage ABR.
- The construction quality of the Pigtail is insane, absolutely top notch.
Right now, I could go either way, I think the choice between the vintage and ABR's would come down to preference. The only downside to the Pigtail is the price, a hefty $200 (and they don't seem to turn up used) but it is a beautiful piece.
